Water:The Pill Chaser
Giving your feline a pill doesn?t scream a good time for you or your cat. There is a simple step you can do to make it easier to swallow: give your kitty at least 1 tsp of water after the pill to avoid damage to the esophagus. A pill that doesn?t make it all the way down right away can cause serious damage to the throat, and pain that may even inhibit the cat from eating like it should. So Bottoms Up!
?Get Off The Counter!?
Cats sure do love to munch on those leftovers! When they get left out, it?s just begging for your cat to end up with intestinal problems. Especially with those turkey strings! So avoid emergency surgery and make sure those leftovers are somewhere kitty can?t go.
The Transition: Getting your Kitty to eat Canned Food
There can be four problems with dry cat food? 1. Type of Protein (too high plant based versus animal based) 2. Carbohydrates are too high 3. Water content is too low 4. Food is excessively processed When starting to change your kitty?s diet, you should do it when they are healthy. Switching to canned food can prevent a urinary tract infection. Leave the food down 20-30 minutes then remove the uneaten portion, repeat this a couple times a day . You can also try playing with toys before hand, sprinkle his favorite treat on top, crush some dry food and put in on the canned food, and anything else that will stimulate your cat?s appetite. If your cat free-feeds, switching to an am/pm schedule can help you verify how much your cat is eating, and how much canned food your cat will need to eat. Some cats lose weight during the transition, so monitor this at home. |
